New York City has over 5 million registered voters, but less than half, 2.1 million voted in the most recent November 2018 elections. The system should be making it easy for residents to engage elections and facilitate all aspects of the voting process, including registration.
This is why in 2017, I authored and passed the law making online voter registration possible in New York City. We did this by creating an online portal designed in part to get more voters engaged in participating, but as the New York Daily News reported, despite law the and all the necessary technology being in place to make online voter registration easy, the New York City Board of Elections (BOE) is now forcing New Yorkers to use snail mail to register online, purposely making the online portal for registration useless.
Believe it or not, the BOE found a way to make online voter registration harder than using the old snail mail system.
Sign this petition to force the New York City Board of elections to get with the times and actually help more New Yorkers get involved.
